Die 40 günstigsten Reiseziele für Backpacker in Europa 2012

Price of Travel, eine Datenbank, die sich auf das Thema Reisekosten spezialisiert hat, hat mit dem "European Backpacker Index 2012" eine Übersicht für Backpacker über die Reisekosten in den Städten  Europas  herausgebracht. Bei den Reisekosten handelt es sich um "Durschnittskosten pro Tag", die sich aus recht typisch touristischen Bestandteilen zusammensetzen. Es handelt sich daher nicht um "Minimalausgaben pro Tag". Für den "European Backpacker Index" werden die folgenden Kriterien in den einzelnen Städten miteinander verglichen:

• One night in the cheapest bunk at the least expensive hostel with a good location and good reviews
• Two public transportation rides per day
• One paid/famous attraction per day (Every city is loaded with free things to do for budget-conscious travelers, but here we take the average cost of a major attraction in each city for each day.)
• Three “budget” meals per day (We took our minimum meal price and added 20% to make it more realistic for a longer trip).
• Three cheap, local beers (or wine) each day as an “entertainment fund.” Non-drinkers might have dessert and coffee or attend a local music performance instead, so this is a general benchmark that should be proportional for each city.

Wie fast nicht anders zu erwarten, sind die günstigsten Destinationen 2012 in Osteuropa zufinden. Die Plätze 1-5 teilen sich folglich Sofia in Bulgarien, Krakau in Polen, Budapest in Ungarn, Warschau in Polen und Bukarest in Bulgarien. Erstaunlicherweise folgt auf Rang 6 bereits Istanbul in der Türkei; Berlin ist im europäischen Vergleich immerhin die 13. günstigste Destination.
